Battery
Installed pricing, what drives it, and how to size capacity so you're not overpaying.
Installed home battery pricing typically runs around $1,000 per kWh of usable capacity, plus a base charge for the gateway, panel work and labor. A single ~13 kWh unit installed is often in the $12,000-$18,000 range before incentives; adding a battery alongside a new solar system costs less than adding one later.
Standalone or paired storage of 3 kWh+ was eligible for the 30% federal residential credit through 2025; 2026+ residential installs do not qualify. Some states and utilities run their own storage incentives — check incentives by state.

With the solar install. Shared labor, permitting and electrical work make retrofits more expensive per kWh.
For essential-load backup, often 10-20 kWh. The battery calculator estimates it from the appliances you choose.
