Incentives
The federal residential credit ended for 2026 installs. Here's what states and utilities still offer, as modeled in our calculators.
The Section 25D residential tax credit was 30% of system cost for property placed in service 2022-2025. The 2025 budget-reconciliation law terminated it for residential expenditures after 2025-12-31, so a 2026+ residential install receives no federal credit. Businesses use a separate credit with its own timeline.
These change often and vary by utility and program funding. The table below reflects the representative values modeled in our calculators — confirm current terms with your state energy office, your utility, and the DSIRE database before relying on them.
Representative planning figures only, not tax or financial advice. Sales/property-tax exemptions are shown as benefits but are not added into calculator dollar figures.
For new residential installs, yes — it applied only through the end of 2025. See the solar tax credit page for detail.
