Solar panel cost calculator

Estimate what a system would cost at your address — system size, gross price, incentives and net cost.

A solar panel cost calculator turns a few inputs — your state, your electricity bill, and how much of it you want to offset — into an estimated system size and price. Ours also applies the federal tax credit for the install year and any modeled state incentives to show a net cost.

What it estimates

  • System size in kW, sized to your bill and target offset.
  • Gross installed cost at typical local price-per-watt.
  • Federal tax credit (30% through 2025; 0% for 2026+ residential).
  • Modeled state credits, rebates and production incentives where they apply.
  • Net cost, year-one production and savings, and payback.

What it can't do

It doesn't see your roof, shading or main panel, and it doesn't know a specific installer's pricing. Treat the output as a planning range, then get real quotes and check them with the Quote Checker.
